Six hundred fined as North West authorities intensify special public transport operations

Close to six hundred motorists were issued with notices for various defects on their vehicles and 44 unroadworthy vehicles discontinued during special public transport enforcement operations across the North West province over the past three days.

One thousand six hundred and forty-four vehicles were stooped at various points bringing to 4 966, vehicles that were checked by North West Road Traffic Management authorities since they embarked on special operations on Wednesday.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono says that the three months special operation that focuses on vehicles vehicle fitness, driver fitness, overloading, compliance to routes, operating licensing permits and driver licenses and public driving permits is intended to reduce road accidents.

MEC Mohono says the operation intended to remove unroadworthy vehicles from public roads will be intensified without compromise in order to save the lives of road users and appeals to the public to support the operation.

Nine road users have thus far been arrested for driving public transport without public driving permits, 1 for driving a discontinued vehicle and the other for a freight overloading at the Bapong Weighbridge on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway.
