The arrest of a dangerous crime suspected in Mpumalanga by the police yesterday was a signal that the police are serious about combating crime and thus creating conditions of peace for the law abiding citizens of the this province.
This is according to Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe after the arrest of a suspect known as Spykos following his reign of terror at Pienaar and Kanyamazane near Nelspruit.
The suspect, who was apprehended by South African Police Service last night in Pretoria, is linked to among others rape, attempted murder and robbery.
The MEC said he was pleased that the police were able to arrest the suspect within targeted seven days that he set for them Shongwe told the Legislature sitting over seven days ago the suspect would have brought to book.
Shongwe said the police must be commended by a for their hard work as it ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect
“We commend good work that was done by our officers. We believe that this will further signal to other criminals that they do not have anywhere to run as we are gradually closing in on them in order to create conditions of safety for all our people,” said the MEC.
He has also called on Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCSPS) top speedily prosecute the suspect and ensure if he is indeed guilty, he is receives maximum sentence.
Shongwe also called on the community members to become the eyes and the ears of the police so that the war against criminality is won. He said that the police alone cannot win the war against crime.
