The MEC for Health and Social Development in Gauteng, Ntombi Mekgwe has expressed shock and dismay at the stabbing of a community service nurse at Sterkfontein Hospital last night.
The nurse, Mr Nakene Masipa, (34) was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend at the hospital’s nurses residence. Attempts to resuscitate the nurse failed and he died at the scene.
“I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and his colleagues. It is tragic to lose a professional in such a violent manner,” the MEC said.
The CEO of the hospital Dr Ray Billa rushed to the scene last night and to provide support. He said the incident happened around 8pm and the suspect was believed to be a nurse employed at Jeppe Clinic in Johannesburg.
The matter has been reported to the police for their investigation and the motive is not known at this stage.
