Seven fugitives to be extradited to the Kingdom of Lesotho

This morning seven fugitives will be extradited to Lesotho after they absconded to South Africa in 2009 to escape their alleged involvement in several crimes.

Our Interpol office received a request from the Kingdom of Lesotho during April 2009 for the extradition of the seven fugitives who are wanted for murder, attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms and the contravention of the Internal Security Act of the Kingdom of Lesotho (viz conspiracy to kill the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho).

These fugitives fled to South Africa through the Mozambican borders during 2009 but their escape was cut short when they were arrested in the Free State province the same year. They have been in custody since their arrest pending the application for extradition by the Lesotho authorities.

On 6 April 2011 they were found extraditable by the Magistrate of Bloemfontein. Subsequently the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development ordered their surrender in terms of the extradition law to the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The fugitive have been identified as follows:-

Alberto Makwakwa
Angelo Mondlani
Mangani Malenge
Abel Nhatsave
George Thomas
Francisco Alberto Mandlate
Rocky Anthony Masinga

They will be escorted out of South Africa at 10h00 this morning by members of the Interpol Fugitive Desk.
