Serve communities not interests of tenderprenuers, Premier Modise tells new Exco

Strengthening good governance for accelerated service delivery is going to require a leadership collective that is selfless and that puts the interests of communities above those of tenderprenuers, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise told Members of the Executive Council and Heads of Departments at the induction of new Executive Council held in Mahikeng on Wednesday.

Premier Modise did not mince her words in spelling her expectation for good governance to be the hallmark of the new Executive Council and provincial administration.

“MECs should not be involved in the recruitment process and employment of lower level employees in departments and HODs who are coerced into taking illegal instructions should report such interference for intervention. The relationship between MECs and HODs should be a professional one. Friendship between MECs and HODs is likely to blur lines of authority and should be avoided at all costs,” cautioned Modise.

Modise appealed to MECs and HODs to respect and love communities by serving them with highest level of professionalism and integrity and said that in line with clean governance.

“No nepotism and favouritism of employees would be tolerated in our administration as we implement a no bonus for non-performers policy across all departments” she stressed.

“For any road death that occurs because we have neglected to maintain our road infrastructure, we should look ourselves in the mirror and acknowledge that we are responsible for it,” said Modise is appealing to the conscience of the public servants.
