Acting Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Ms Annelize van Wyk, has expressed outrage at the killing of two young police officers over the weekend while on routine patrol in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement near Hout Bay, Cape Town.
Ms Van Wyk said the brutal and senseless killing of Constables Phindiwe Nikani and Mandisi Nduku was unforgivable and incomprehensible. “I do not understand how someone can shoot law enforcement officers in cold blood without any provocation,” said Ms Van Wyk. She expressed her deepest condolences to the family members and loved ones of Constables Phindiwe Nikani and Mandisi Nduku on behalf of the Portfolio Committee on Police.
Ms Van Wyk said the Committee would offer its full support to the police as they hunt down those responsible for the killings. She urged anyone with information that could assist the police in bringing the culprit(s) to book to contact their nearest police station. The Committee has also congratulated the police on making an arrest in connection to the killings.
