A Senior Manager of the South African Police Service, Brigadier Vusi Samuel Mdakane 51, appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on a case of fraud.
Mdakane, who is a Cluster Commander of Nelspruit made entries of fraudulent claims indicating that cases were being probed in Komatipoort by him using a subsidised motor vehicle. In addition, the probe revealed that the cases investigated by Mdakane were none existent.
A warrant of arrest was issued and he was apprehended today. Mdakane was granted a R1000-00 bail and the case was postponed to 25 August 2011.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela signalled a caution to senior managers who might be submitting false claims that they will be facing the might of the law. “Claims should not be viewed as additional salaries but are to re-imburse for official work done”, said the Provincial Commissioner.
General Ntobela indicated that employees of the police service manipulating the system - allocating tenders to next of kin, will be pounced on not long.
