Today, 11 August 2011, the Regional Manager of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in Gert Sibande, Shakespeare Mandla Sibanyoni 41, was arrested for corruption.
Information received revealed that Sibanyoni accepted bribes from emerging farmers in exchange for leasing out state owned farms. Police discovered that he leased out twelve farms, some of which were claimed by dispossessed people.
We urge all the people who were involved in this illicit act to come forward. All applications processed by Sibanyoni are under scrutiny. He was granted R5000 00 bail with conditions, his case was postponed to 2 September 2011.
