Self-confessed fraud physiotherapist guilty of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund will tomorrow (August 28) return back in the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court for sentencing.
The Rustenburg-based Jurry Sehunoe (34) was on July 3 during his last court appearance ordered to repay back the Department of Labour R2,1 million of his ill-gotten gains with interest within 14 days of the execution of the confiscation order.
Sehunoe was accused of defrauding Department of Labour 2,1-million. He is out on a bail of R3 000. He pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering.
He was originally charged with two co-defendants Maxwell Ramaphosa and Samuel Mfeleng - former civil servants who previously worked for the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund.
Ramaphosa and Mfeleng’s matter has since been transferred to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in a separation of trial following Sehunoe’s guilty plea. The two men have pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, in another matter of physiotherapist Jones Mothemola Modau (31), his case was today (August 27) provisionally postponed for sentencing on 27 September. Modau’s matter was postponed because a Correctional Services and social worker’s report(s) were not yet available.
In the case, the self-confessed Modau was charged with former DoL’s Compensation Fund employees Maxwell Ramaphosa, Samuel Mfeleng, and Kgabo Methi. The trial was also separated and the trio have since pleaded not guilty to defrauding the DoL.
The accused are all out on a warning. They face three counts of fraud and 14 counts of money laundering involving about R500 000.
In his last court appearance on July 2, Modau was ordered to repay back the DoL within 14 days from execution of the confiscation order.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The Fund covers workers injured or disabled at work or for diseases sustained from the hazardous work environment.
