It is alleged that Mr Kaita has received numerous death threats via e-mail and according to the team's spokesperson these threats emanate from Nigeria.
All 32 playing teams presently in South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are receiving close protection services from members of elite units within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
A team security liaison officer (TSLO) from the SAPS is also assigned to each team to coordinate all security matters relating to the team and individual players. Each team security liaison officer is also an experienced and highly trained member of the SAPS.
The team security liaison officer and close protectors travel everywhere with the teams and security around each team is very tight and of a high quality.
The team security liaison officer with the Nigerian team has been requested to pay close attention to Mr Kaita and to ensure that the stringent security measures already in place are sustained.
No case docket has been opened with the SAPS, but FIFA is also aware of the reports of e-mail threats.
