The second edition of the Mine Dance Festival, hosted by the Department of Sport Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) in Thabong/Welkom from 8 to 14 April 2013, received thumbs up across the spectrum. The public gave a positive review of the festival in terms of the professional manner in which it was staged as well as, above all, the fact that people’s culture is still being celebrated in the manner in which it was over the past weekend.
Participants in the festival, who were in the main community cultural groups and individuals as well as, in particular, mine workers, expressed enormous satisfaction at the opportunity provided to them by the department to showcase their talent on such a platform. MEC for SACR, Mr Dan Kgothule, was thanked by both participants and the public for playing a leading role in ensuring such a meaningful and productive participation.
The festival was scintillating on the last day of its staging with performances by local, national and international traditional music guest artists such as Apolontabanyane, Bhekuyise, Puseletso Seema, Phuzekhemisi and many others.
