Sebego calls for transformation in North West municipalities

The department’s ability to support municipalities is mainly dependent on the overall transformation and level of readiness of municipalities to respond to the call for the delivery of quality services and principles of good governance. MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs Paul Sebego said.

The MEC was addressing a consultative session between the department and stakeholders in the provincial local government sector. The session was intended to review processes and systems that have a direct impact on the delivery of services to communities.

“We need to debate and come up with processes that will lead to transformation in local government, " he said.

The sitting focused on the local government turn-around strategy and included:

A massive programme to build economic and social infrastructure which aims to:

  • strengthen the skills and human resource base
  • intensify the fight against crime and corruption
  • build cohesive, caring sustainable communities
  • sustainable resource management and land use
  • improve the public service and strengthening of the democratic institution.
