Seat belt saves Lichtenburg woman's life

The use of a safety belt saved the life of a 57 year old Lichtenburg woman after her car rolled five times on the R503 Mafikeng-Lichtenburg road on Sunday afternoon.

The woman employed by Mafikeng Local Municipality had driven from Rustenburg and was on her way home after dropping some of her colleagues in Mafikeng. She appeared to have lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue when her vehicle veered to the right lane and rolled five times after it touched the gravel before coming to a standstill on its wheels.

Though shaken by the accident, the woman who was alone at the time of the accident was unscathed and managed to phone her husband and colleagues who immediately rushed to the accident scene.

“I thank the Lord for my miraculous survival and that there was no oncoming traffic at the time” she said shedding tears after praying with her family and colleagues at the scene.

Meanwhile, North West MEC for Public Safety Howard Yawa, appeals to motorists to rest whenever they feel tired and or driving distances that exceed 200 kilometres or after two hours driving to avoid fatigue.
