School Principal investigated for coming to school drunk

The Gauteng Department of Education is investigating allegations that a primary school principal came to work under the influence of alcohol this morning. This follows a Lead SA tip-off. The principal left the school when officials confronted him. But when he returned to fetch his car, officials were waiting for him.

The investigations are at an advanced stage and the department will provide further information when these are completed.

We view such unprofessional conduct in a very serious light as it compromises the provision of quality education. If these allegations are proved to be true, the department will not hesitate to charge him.

The department acted after receiving information from Lead SA.

“We thank MEC Barbara Creecy and her officials for moving with speed. We will continue to stand up, do the right thing and make a difference,” said Lead SA’s Yusuf Abramjee.
