The Limpopo Department of Education is in the process of registering learners for admission into public schools for next year (2013). MEC Namane Dickson Masemola is calling on all parents, caregivers and guardians whose children will be going to school for the first time or moving to new school next year to immediately collect registration forms from the school nearest to their home.
The process of registration will commence from 1 August 2012 until 30 November 2012. The MEC is encouraging parents to utilise the registration period with the aim to curb matters of overcrowding so that proper allocation of learning materials could be put in place before the beginning of new school calendar year. It is advisable to return the forms within a day or two because admissions will be treated on first come first serve basis.
The department has an obligation to accommodate all children of school going age. If you want your child to go to school away from where you stay, you may register your child at the school of your choice, but the school must put your child `s name on a waiting list (or register) and give you the letter to prove that you’re on the list.
In terms of South African School Act you can register your child at school in grade 1 if the child is 5 turning 6 on or before 30 June 2012.Those who are 4 turning 5 on or before 30 June 2012 must be admitted into grade R. In order to register your child you must take the following documents with you:
- Birth certificate
- Immunization card
- Form 138( report card)
- Evidence that you have applied for permission to stay /study in South Africa if foreign
