Sasolburg station commissioner arrested for rape and assault common

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is investigating a case of rape and assault against the station commissioner of Sasolburg, Free State.

It is alleged that the Station Commissioner, namely Director Nghondzweni raped the victim, who is a volunteer, in his office at Sasolburg police station on Friday, 5 February 2010 at about 21h30 in the evening. He allegedly requested the victim to type something for him, then locked the office door and raped her.

The Independent Complaints Directorate was informed on Sunday, 7 February 2010 and immediately dispatched an investigation team to interview the victim and witnesses and conduct investigations. The team worked around the clock and was able to register the case docket in the early hours of this morning.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, 8 February 2010 and taken to court for bail application. He was released on bail of R2 000 with strict conditions pending further investigations. The accused officer will appear again on 8 March 2010.

The ICD takes such matters seriously and will do its utmost to have them investigated as swiftly as possible.
