In 2009 an intense Crime Intelligence driven operation led to the arrest of four organised crime police officers who used state resources, police offices, equipment, status and police powers to enrich themselves. The SAPS welcomes the verdicts of lengthy sentences imposed to Colonel Dumisani Jwara (47), Warrant Officer Victor Mpho Jwili (42) and Landro Mokgosani (42) who are the former members of the Krugersdorp Organised Crime Unit. The tracing, arrest and conviction of the trio came as a result of dedicated police units from the National Crime Intelligence division that continues to be loyal to the noble course of creating a smaller world for criminals.
The convicts were charged of racketeering, dealing in drugs, fraud, theft, attempted theft, defeating the end of justice and illegal distribution of drugs. The suspects used to apply for section 252A at Magistrate`s courts for control of delivery on drugs from OR Tambo to their places of destinations. They would register few grams of drugs in the SAP 13 and the rest of the consignment will be sold to drug lords.
Their knowing too much of the modus operand’s of the SAPS counter intelligence gathering never assisted them in any case. Jwili and Mokgosani will serve 22 and 20 years respectively, whereas the well respected head of the unit Jwara was sentenced for 80 years life imprisonment but will only serve 25 years.
The Acting National Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi applauds the commitment of these units that works tirelessly to ensure that criminals and acts of criminality are eroded from society. The success is a wakeup call to all members of the police that “crime does not pay” he said. “It is a reminder to all rotten potatoes still hiding behind the closets that they can run but not hide from the long arm of the law. Not long they will be rooted out just like them”, the General said.
