The Police in Durban are appealing for help to track down a man and a woman purporting to be Customs officials in connection with fraud. They are selling fictitious goods under false pretexts to people in the area, usually professionals.
According to Westville SAPS Communications Officer, Sergeant Stephen Clark, the suspects approach “professional people” and claim to know them, usually under the pretext of being a former patient or client. Claiming to be Customs officials, they offer them items to buy or bid on that are supposedly earmarked for auction, although they disappear once the funds have been transferred.
