SANDF warns against the alleged march planned by SANDU to the Union Buildings

It has come to the attention of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) that the South African National Defence Union (SANDU) is allegedly organising a march to the Union Buildings on 26 August 2013.

It is alleged that with this march, SANDU will hand over grievances and commemorate the 2009 march by soldiers to the Union Buildings. On 26 August 2009, soldiers or members of the SANDF illegally marched to the Union Buildings in defiance of military and court orders. The SANDF has since the march, put in place additional measures to address members’ grievances. These measures include Grievance Board and Military Ombud.

The SANDF warns that should any of its members be found to have contravened Military Code of Conduct, Constitution or any of the defence force’s regulations, would be dealt with accordingly.

The SANDF is expected by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa to be managed as a professional and disciplined force. In this regard, the SANDF will ensure that it lives up to this expectation and standard.
