SANDF Chaplain General on the final arrangements of the funerals of the members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) who died in the Central African Republic

In my capacity as the Chaplain General of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), may I take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude for the countless messages of support that we as the SANDF have been receiving so far during this painful and difficult period of mourning the loss of our fallen heroes. We also acknowledge the invaluable contribution of religious leaders and members of all faith groups for their prayers and condolences. So far God has been very kind to us.

May I assure the nation that chaplains, social workers and members of the SANDF have been on the ground since day one comforting, supporting, counselling and guiding every single family of both deceased and injured members as required.

The SANDF would like to inform the public of South Africa about the funeral arrangements of the members who lost their lives in the Central African Republic last week. All protocols of the SANDF have been followed including the receiving and handing over of the remains which took place at Waterkloof Air Force Base on Thursday.

A National Memorial Service of our soldiers which was attended by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief, Mr Jacob Zuma was held at Swartkop Air Force Base. The Funeral arrangements will follow all SANDF protocols as expected.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) would once again like to appeal to the South African public and all members of society to give all support and respect the SANDF and allow members of the families to mourn their loved ones with honour and dignity.

We humbly implore all to avoid using this very sad moment for reasons other than for the purpose and respecting our fallen heroes. May their souls rest in Peace.
