SALGA KwaZulu-Natal elects Provincial Executive Committee for fifth Administration during Provincial Conference

In line with its Constitution, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in KZN convened its provincial conference on Friday, 25 March 2022 at Umhlathuze Civic Centre, to elect the new leadership to take the organisation forward for the next five-year local government term. SALGA President, Cllr Bheke Stofile, along with Deputy President, Cllr Flora Maboa- Boltman and NEC members led the proceedings of the conference. The newly elected leadership is as follows:  

  • Chairperson: Cllr. Thami Ntuli, Mayor: King Cetshwayo District Municipality
  • Deputy Chairperson: Cllr. Ntombifuthi Gumede, Councillor:  Ethekwini Metro

  • Deputy Chairperson: Cllr. Xolani Dube, Mayor: Newcastle Local Municipality
  • Deputy Chairperson: Cllr. Velephi Sikhosana, Mayor: Uphongolo Local Municipality

The President of SALGA, Cllr Bheke Stofile congratulated the newly elected leadership and wished them well in the execution of their duties. He called upon the PEC to work tirelessly in uniting the sector in its focus to promote service delivery.  

“I am truly humbled by the confidence that this Conference has shown in me and the collective leadership that has been elected to carry forward the good work that is being done by the sector”, said Cllr. Thami Ntuli who was elected as the Provincial Chairperson. He further committed to continue lobbying for the betterment of the local government sector.
