SA Express was not invited to brief the Committee

Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprise, Mr Peter Maluleka, says newspaper reports claiming that South African Express leadership did not show up before Parliament yesterday are not true.

According to media reports, SA Express chief executive Mr Inati Ntshinga and board chairperson Ms Lilian Boyle are alleged to have known about the irregularities in the accounting system of the airline and had failed to present a forensic report that was being investigated by Sizwe Ntsaluba before the Committee

The Portfolio Committee, however, is deeply disturbed by the media reports that wrongly accused SA Express of failing to appear before the Committee. “We would like to categorically state that the Committee never invited the airline nor did it invite Sizwe Ntsaluba as purported in the media to appear before the Committee,” said Maluleka.

Maluleka said SA Express was not on the Committee programme for the day and no invitation was issued to them to make a presentation regarding the ongoing investigation by forensic auditors.

The reports by DA MP Mr Pieter van Dalen were a misrepresentation of the Committee and sought to damage the image and integrity of the state-owned company, he added.
