The SA Agulhas, South Africa's polar vessel, urgently departed yesterday afternoon, 14 July 2009 at 14h00 for Marion Island with a medical doctor and Titan Aviation crew onboard the vessel to perform a medical evacuation. A member from the research team has been reported injured. The medical orderly at Marion Island together with two military hospital personnel are attending to the situation. The patient is in a stable condition.
The SA Agulhas is expected to be back in approximately nine days, weather dependent. The family of the patient has been notified.
