Gauteng Director-General, Margaret Diedericks, has wished Ronald Swartz well in his new position as head (HoD) of the Department of Roads and Transport. Swartz resumed his duties on Tuesday, 2 April 2013.
Diedericks who has been acting HoD for the past six months following the departure of then HoD, Mavela Dlamini said she was happy that the department found someone who is grounded and understand the public service.
“I am very happy and ecstatic because as holding HoD, I feel like I’ve done my course, Mr Swartz comes in with a wealth of experience as an administrator, just what the department needs right now in its turnaround state,” said Diedericks.
In addition, Diedericks thanked MEC Ismail Vadi for his valuable guidance during her time as acting HoD. Swartz is not entirely new to Gauteng government, he was in the Department of Education for quite some time before joining the Western Cape Department of Education as Head of Department in 2002, a position he held until 2009.
In 2011, he joined a consulting company, Education Management Interventions, as Chief Executive Officer.
Swartz holds BA Honours degree in Sociology, History and Education from the University of Cape Town, Masters in Education from Wits University and BA Honours in History from University of South Africa.
