Most factories are closing this Friday; migrant workers will be heading home for the summer holiday break. Many road traffic crashes follow violation of a traffic rule; motorists are urged to obey the road rules to enhance road traffic safety on our roads. The law enforcement authorities across the country in all three spheres of government will tighten the screws with law enforcement operations to rid our roads of disobedient road users as road traffic congestion is expected to rise this coming weekend as factories close and holiday makers set on their journeys to various holiday destinations across the country.
Motorists are further warned to drive cautiously in wet weather conditions as thunder storms are expected in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal as well as Gauteng this afternoon whilst it will be scorching hot in the rest of the country. In wet weather conditions, it is advisable to increase the following distance to give allowance for three or more vehicles in front and slow down to avoid road traffic crashes.
There are road works in many major routes in the country, motorists are advised to exercise patience as these road works may result in backed up traffic. Motorists are urged to allow for an extra hour or more of travelling time.
When heading for your holiday check these critical safety items:
* All lights including indicators
* Seat belts
* Wipers
* Front and rear tyres
* Foot-brake front and rear
* Hand Brake
* Steering mechanism (Steering box & tie rod ends)

We encourage all road users to report bad driving on: 0861 400 800.
