Road traffic law enforcements operations ahead of USA Ghana match

The North West Public Safety Traffic conducted road traffic law enforcement operations in and around Rustenburg on Friday ahead of the
USA-Ghana 2010 FIFA Football World Cup match to be played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

The operations in support of the Rustenburg host city traffic will include joint helicopter operations with South African Police Force.
Five hundred and forty officials and volunteers will be deployed at 50 key points in Phokeng and around Rustenburg to facilitate a safe flow of traffic, and to enforce road user compliance to the road traffic act and regulations.

Road closures around the stadium will be implemented as from 19h00 on
Saturday 26 June 2010 prior to the USA-Ghana match expected to draw a full capacity crowd.

Minimal congestion was experienced on the main routes to the stadium prior the Japan-Denmark match that was attended by over 27 900 spectators at the stadium on Thursday evening. The transportation of spectators to park-and-rides after the match was slower than during the
Mexico-Uruguay match which was concluded within 90 minutes. All vehicles were cleared only within three hours after the match.

An incident involving transporting of passengers after the match was reported, with a number of spectators taken to the wrong park-and-ride.
When they requested the shuttle operators to transport them to where there vehicles were parked, the shuttle operators refused. The spectators were only taken to the correct park-and-ride after intervention by police officials.
