In a bid to reduce the risks within the Eastern Cape Department of Transport to an acceptable level, a departmental risk register with action plan will be developed.
This decision was taken during a two day annual risk assessment workshop held the University of Fort Hare in Bhisho Campus on 8 and 9 March 2012 as mandated by the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury regulations.
The workshop was attended by the management of the department, internal audit, the chairperson of the audit committee and legal services unit. Following are the risks that were assessed on two levels namely: operational and strategic level, and rated in terms of their impact and likelihood of occurring.
The register will mitigate critical risks facing the Department as identified and rated. This risk register will be utilised to direct the efforts of the department's internal audit unit.
Furthermore, based on the assessment, top ten risks of the department will be monitored by the top management of the department, risk and audit committee throughout the year.
