Management arrangements by the Western Cape Education Department to monitor attendance of educators during today's industrial strike action indicate that there has been a marginal decrease in school closures and teacher absenteeism since last Friday.
Five percent (75) of our schools closed as a result of today's industrial strike action.
17 percent of educators were absent from work.
There have been no serious incidents of violence or intimidation around the province. All reported incidents were dealt with by the police.
We are thankful that the vast majority of our schools in the Western Cape continued to function. We continue to advise parents and caregivers to send their children to school on Tuesday.
