Revenue Service on closing date for 2015 Tax Season

This is the last Saturday when 25 SARS branch offices will extend working hours in anticipation of an increase in the number of taxpayers who require assistance with filing their returns.

Thousands of tax payers turned up at SARS offices in malls and cities to do their last minute submissions last weekend.

The purpose is to assist taxpayers with their returns. Taxpayers are to note that only issues relating to tax return submissions will be dealt with.

In the final run, the offices will be open from 8am – 1pm in 25 branches around the country, including Gauteng, Free State, North West, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Western and Eastern Cape.

So far, over 3.7 million taxpayers have filed their income tax returns, in accordance with SARS’ forecasts. This is slightly more than last year.

As a result, approximately 24 000 taxpayers are filing their returns per day. But the volume is expected to increase with two weeks to go before Tax Season ends on 27 November 2015.

In fact, the last few days have seen an increasing build up in queues at SARS branches. Also, the volume of calls handled by the SARS Contact Centre has shown marked increase as the deadline approaches.

SARS wishes to urge all those who have not yet submitted a return to do so as soon as possible.

For a complete list of branches that will be open on 21 November 2015 taxpayers can visit the SARS website or click here
