Revenue enhancement project forum continues in nine municipalities

The revenue enhancement project standing forum consisting of officials of the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in partnership with Eskom, is hosting quarterly deliberation with nine municipalities receiving intervention on their municipalities receiving intervention on their municipal electricity debts.

These municipalities include Matlosana, Ditsobotla, Naledi, Lekwa Teemane, Ventersdorp, Maquassi hills, Tswaing, Kgetleng rivier, Ramotshere and Madibeng local municipalities. Revenue managers, councillors responsible for municipal finances, MPAC Chairpersons are amongst those representing municipalities.

Eskom has offered these municipalities a viable package of ensuring that their current and arrear debts are settled and that includes amongst others the drawing of payments plans for a period of twelve months and also checking losses which might be caused by technical, infrastructure challenges or theft. Municipalities which already conducted work sessions with regard to this intervention includes Maquassi hills, Lekwa Teemane, Matlosana and Naledi and the rest will be scheduled throughout.

The MEC for Department of Local Government and Human Settlement has an obligation in terms of the terms of the municipal finance management act to ensure that interventions of any nature pertaining to municipal finance administration is provided where necessary to assist municipalities, therefore the department will be facilitating, monitoring and supporting municipalities in this project. A follow up meeting on progress and the extent of the impact which will be held later this month.
