Retraction over the Ekukhanyeni story in Gauteng News January edition

On Thursday, 19 January 2012, the Gauteng News published an article headlined “Relocated Ramaphosa learners adapt well in new schools” on page 4.

The article was subsequently found to have contained factual errors in relation to the reasons of the withdrawal of the registration of Ekukhanyeni School.

Gauteng News has retracted the second paragraph of that story, which reads:

“They were moved from their school in Ramaphosa informal settlement following its closure after its owner Pastor JosiasMabaso was arrested for allegedly embezzling funds amounting to R20 million from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).”

That paragraph should have read:

“Learners’ parents were offered access to state schooling following the deregistration of the Ekukhanyeni school.”

Gauteng News hereby apologises unreservedly for that second paragraph.
