Response to today's Daily Dispatch front page article

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport would like to correct the misleading article in today's Daily Dispatch with a headline "Massive Project Promised to fix Mthatha".

The article refers to the Mthatha airport and claims that the upgrading of the airport is on hold. We would like to bring to the attention of the Daily Dispatch that the upgrading process of the airport remains on course. A tender bulleting calling for interested contractors appeared in last weekend's national newspapers.

On Thursday, 20 August 2009, there will be a compulsory site visit by all interested companies to the airport. This clearly demonstrates that processes are underway to ensure that physical refurbishment of the airport commences next month.
