Response to the media statement released by South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU)

The Department of Basic Education has noted the statement released by South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) today. The department wants to reiterate that the Presidential Task Team has finalised its findings and requested Minister Angie Motshekga to refer matters affecting our Director-General (DG), Mr Bobby Soobrayan to the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The matter is now with the Public Service Commission and we are hopeful that within the 60 days given to the PSC, the matter will be finalised. Our DG issued a statement this morning welcoming the Presidential Task Team Report and that the PSC is a credible institution that will carry this task fairly.

We want to alert the public that the Department of Basic Education does not have any formal contract with a company called Edu Solutions and any links to the Basic Education DG to this company is unfortunate and misleading.

We also want to further indicate that the Office of the Auditor General investigated the workbooks contract awarded to Lebone, and no corrupt findings were established. The department will await the reports from the PSC and Presidency before commenting further on this subject.
