Response to correspondence from General Bantu Holomisa relating to alleged corruption at the South African Broadcasting Corporation acquisitions

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Communications, Ismail Vadi, expressed appreciation to General Bantu Holomisa for bringing to his attention extracts of an internal audit report on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) international acquisitions.

Vadi said that it is premature at this stage to convene a special meeting of the committee, as the office of the Auditor-General had in fact fully investigated the allegations and reported on them both to Parliament and to the Interim Board. As such the specific cases are currently being dealt with by the Interim Board.

Vadi added that it is appropriate for the Interim Board to be given the opportunity to follow the processes that it has put in place to address this matter along with the other allegations.

Vadi said that the Interim Board has given the committee an assurance that all the matters identified in the Auditor-General’s Report will be dealt with expeditiously and thoroughly.
