The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga would like to warn all residents of the province to be on alert as rains are expected to pour in the province. The weather service predicts 30 percent to 60 percent chances of thundershowers and likely thunderstorms in the Northern Highveld, Lowveld, Escarpment and Eastern Highveld. These conditions will prevail from today, 14 to 16 April 2011.
The department has also instructed all municipalities to be on full alert and on standby. The continued rains could result in an increase of dam and river levels thus making small streams very dangerous. People must move away from river banks and they must avoid crossing full rivers and over flowing bridges. Parents are urged to warn children not to play next to streams and rivers. The department requests all communities to take precautions especially those who are staying in low-lying areas.
