The South African Police Service (SAPS) acknowledges the finalisation of the enquiry into the leasing of a building in the Pretoria CBD. This has been a cumbersome process which has taken five months to finalise since initial media reports in August 2010.
A press conference on the official release of the final report by Public Protector Ms Thuli Madonsela was held earlier today.
The SAPS has not received the report. Once we do so, we will carefully study the voluminous document before we are in a position to pronounce on the contents.
The SAPS will not, therefore, comment on the matter at this stage. We note, however, with some concern, that sections of the media have begun to publish misleading and inaccurate interpretations of the Public Protector's report. We request the media to study the document in its entirety and report accurately.
The management of the SAPS will continue with a scheduled National Management Forum in the Eastern Cape over the next few days during which various police stations and units will be inspected with the purpose of improving policing services to the communities in the province.
