Replacement and designation of new members to serve on the Judicial Service Commission

Acting in terms of section 178(3) of the Constitution of Republic of South Africa, 1996, President Jacob Zuma has decided to replace all members of the Judicial Service Commission who are designated by the President of the Republic.

The members who have been replaced are:
* Advocate G Bizos SC
* Advocate K Moroka SC
* Mr K Erntezen
* Advocate S Nthai

The President intends to designate the following persons to fill the vacancies on the Judicial Service Commission as the designated members, as provided by section 178(1) (j) of the Constitution:
* Advocate Ismail Semenya SC
* Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza SC
* Ms Andiswa Ndoni
* Advocate Vas Soni SC

The President is in a process of consultation with leaders of political parties represented in the National Assembly, as required by Section 178(1) (j) of the Constitution, in order to finalise the designation of the new members. The President thanks the outgoing members for their sterling service to the nation.

He is of the view that the incoming members will competently take forward the work of their predecessors and that they will be equal to the task of contributing to a judiciary that all South Africans can support and be proud of.
