The Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has provided relief aid in the form of blankets and tents to 341 people that were affected by a hailstorm that was accompanied by strong winds that hit Hoyi area in Nkomazi municipality on Tuesday night. The hailstorm caused damage to 53 houses, with some being totally demolished by the storms.
Disaster officials from the province, Nkomazi local municipality and Ehlanzeni District municipality accompanied by the Provincial Head of Department for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr David Mahlobo have visited the area to conduct an assessment of the damage. The assessment by the disaster team has indicated that immediate relief in the form of blankets and tents was needed and this has been dispatched. The Department of Social Development will distribute food parcels to the affected families today.
The Departments of Human Settlements, Social development and Agriculture, Rural development and Land Administration will also visit the area to conduct more assessments to determine what further assistance will be required.
