Registration for children of school going age for the 2010 school year

The department takes this time to make a clarion call to all parents to register their children of school going age for the 2010 school year before 30 October 2009.

This is an imperative and must be done to ensure that schools are able to plan in advance. Of significance is that the early registration of learners enables the department to ensure that required resources such as the learner teacher support material, educators and paper budgets are provided in accordance to the actual number of learners at different schools.

Early registration of learners enables schools to commence with teaching and learning on the first day of school reopening. “I am thrilled to make this call at the beginning of Woman’s Month and I take this time to make a clarion call to all learners especially girl learners and mothers to play a pivotal role in this regard.

Girl learners must be encouraged to take their education serious since they are expected to occupy a leading role in the emancipation and economic development of this country,” said the MEC for Education Mrs Reginah Mhaule.

All parents of school going children are required by law to register their children for 2010 school year before the end of October 2009.

Parents must produce the following documents as requirement for registration:

* Application form from the school
* Official birth certificates of the child
* Proof of immunisation
* A transfer card if a learner transfers from one public school to another
* The last report card issued by the previous school

Should a parent experience a problem in this regard, he/she should request a written explanation from the principal or contact the nearest circuit office for assistance.

NB. No learner can be refused admission on the basis that his/her parents are unable to pay school fees.

Learners with special disabilities must also be attended to in line with the dictates of White Paper No 6.
