Ramadan Eid Ul-Fitr message from President Jacob Zuma

Today, 31 August 2011 marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims in South Africa and indeed the rest of the world.

This is the month where the Muslim community devoted themselves to a deep spiritual renewal and reflection.

It has been a time where the Muslim community made a lot of personal sacrifices, giving to the needy and assisting those less fortunate then themselves.

Having felt the warmth and love of the Muslim community I know and trust that this spirit of self sacrifice, giving and volunteerism will be extended in their everyday life to all South Africans.

It is this spirit of giving and helping a fellow human being which we call uBuntu that will ensure we uplift our people and build a better South Africa.

Therefore on behalf of the government and the entire people of South Africa we join the Muslim community  in celebrating their end of Ramadan and wish them a happy Eid ul-Fitr. May you have a peaceful and joyous day with your family, friends and may the coming year be filled with success, prosperity and harmony.

I thank you!
