North West Provincial Road Traffic Management authorities declared the R511 Brits- Thabazimbi road temporarily unsafe for heavy motor vehicles due to heavy rains experienced around the Brits area on Tuesday afternoon.
Soil around the bridge and culverts crossing the Crocodile River were eroded by the flooding water from the Hartebeespoortdam. Until the road is assessed and declared safe by competent engineers, only light motor vehicles should use the road with caution to avoid further damage caused by the heavy rain to the road infrastructure and preventable accidents.
While the situation is being closely monitored, heavy motor vehicles travelling from Brits towards Thabazimbi are advised to use the N4 Bakwena Platinum highway then connect into the R566 Pretoria to Sun City road at the Majakaneng off ramp or alternatively proceed towards Rustenburg to join the R510 Rustenburg-Thabazimbi road.
