The Portfolio Committee on Public Works has committed itself to working with the department to fulfil its mandate and to improve on its service delivery.
Today’s Committee meeting was attended by the Minister, Deputy Minister, Director General, Deputy Director Generals and officials of the four entities that report to department. These entities are the Independent Development Trust (IDT), the Construction Industry Development Board (CIBD), the Agrément South Africa (ASA) and the Council for the built Environment (CBE). The Committee was briefed on the scope and functions of these entities.
The Committee, through the Chairperson, Mr. Ben Martins, committed to have a constructive and critical oversight relationship with the Ministry, the department and its entities.
The Committee further announced its intention to conduct in loco visits to provinces to appraise itself how various Public Works offices function and interact with the national department and the general public.
In conclusion, the Portfolio Committee, the Ministry and the department committed to working together in order to raise the level of service delivery to the South African public.
