Public violence for service delivery leads to arson

A councillor‘s house was burned to ashes on Wednesday, 13 June 2012, at about 19h35 at Extension 38 in Mahikeng. Police received a call that house no 4920 at extension 38 was on fire. The police went to that house and the fire emergency was also informed but the house was burned to ashes.

The community of Extension 38 are allegedly complaining about service delivery. The councillor also reported that kids around extension 38 were stoning passerby vehicles and barricading the roads. Police were summoned to the area and they are currently monitoring the situation. No arrests were made. The situation currently is calm and under control. More Police Officers will be deployed in the area to monitor and control the situation.

Taung - The situation in Taung has returned to normal. The situation at Manokwane Village is still tense and the communities are barricading the roads. Telkom poles were also allegedly damaged through the night. The Dept of Public Works was contacted and will assist to clear the barricaded roads. No  arrest were made,

Rustenburg - at Rustenburg the situation is normal. No incidences were reported.
