The Public Protector Team and I have noted official statements from the Presidency and media reports on the admission of former President Nelson Mandela to the One Military Hospital in Pretoria over the weekend, for routine check-ups.
We would like to join the country and indeed the rest of the world in wishing President Mandela well as he undergoes these tests, with the hope that doctors will again give him a clean bill of health so that he can continue to be an epitome of reconciliation, unity and peace to South Africans and the world at large.
President Mandela’s life story is not only an inspiration to many across the globe, it also serves as hope to those who continue to yearn for the upholding of human rights, promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law, in that, with the right kind of leadership, freedom and everlasting peace are possible.
It is our view that these and many attributes that President Mandela possess are the source of an influx of messages of support that have been pouring in through various media platforms since the news of his admission to hospital surfaced.
On behalf of the entire Public Protector Team, I would like to wish “Madiba” good health and an abundance of God’s grace as we approach the festive season. May he get well soon and may the family have fortitude during these trying times.
