Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela wishes to express gratitude to the people of South Africa for the value they continue to place on the modest efforts of her office by selecting her as South African of The Year.
The award is a culmination of a rigorous selection process which saw Public Protector Madonsela emerge as a finalist with six accomplished nominees and walk away with the coveted accolade at glittering ceremony in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
Public Protector Madonsela is humbled that fellow South Africans appreciate her office’s efforts regarding joining hands with others in rooting out maladministration in all its manifestations, from indifference to corruption.
“The award confirms to the Public Protector Team, on whose behalf I accepted the award, that they are part of a critical mass that is committed to ensuring a state that is accountable, operates with integrity and responsiveness at all times,” she said.
The efforts of the Public Protector team remain in pursuit of the constitutional dream of an inclusive South Africa, where everyone's quality of life would be improved and their potential freed, the Public Protector added.
She is grateful to ANN7, the judging panels and the people of South Africa who voted for her and all those that contribute tirelessly to the effectiveness of the Public Protector as an independent constitutional institution supporting constitutional democracy.
