Parliament has today received the report from the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, on the investigation into allegations of maladministration and corruption in the procurement of premises to accommodate the head office of the Electoral Commission.
The report will now be tabled and thereafter referred to a relevant oversight committee for consideration. The committee is required to report back to the National Assembly (NA) and recommend a course of action.
The Electoral Commission is a State Institution Supporting Constitutional Democracy and reports on its activities and performance of its functions to the NA.
Until the NA adopts the report and recommendation of the committee, the Speaker, in terms of the constitution, legislation and the Rules, is not in a position to embark on any other course of action.
Further information on the processing of the report will be communicated in due course.
