The Limpopo Department of Agriculture received diamond, two gold and silver awards at Professional Management Review-Africa (PMR-Africa) Limpopo Leaders and Achievers Awards hosted in Polokwane on Monday, 13 September 2010.
The MEC for Agriculture, Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba accompanied by the Head of Department (Professor Edward Nesamvuni) and some of his generals, the chief financial officer and some general managers; received the achievement with a smile.
The Limpopo Department of Agriculture received a diamond award in the provincial government department doing most to eradicate poverty, two golden awards in the provincial government department that has been most effective in achieving their goals over the past 12 months and provincial government department that has done the most for prosperity and growth categories.
The silver award could not afford to lose the honour of joining other awards shining in the Limpopo Department of Agriculture's Cabinet, after the Limpopo Department of Agriculture did well in the provincial government department providing the best customer service to the public category.
The awards were based on the survey conducted by PMR-Africa, standing for Professional Management Review-Africa. According to the Chief Executive Officer for PMR-Africa, the survey aimed at measuring companies, institutions, government entities and individuals on their contribution to the economic growth and development of the province, levels of management expertise and implementation of corporate governance.
The survey, Hattingh explained, measured competencies of companies, institutions and government as well as their brand awareness. Random sampling was used in the research. PMR-Africa does not conduct such a research in Limpopo only, but annually throughout South Africa.
Neighbouring countries such as Botswana and Lesotho also use this survey to honour leaders and achievers as identified and rated by their peers. Participating Southern Africa's top business, provincial and local government leaders are rated through PMR-Africa's independently conceived surveys.
Some of the Limpopo provincial government departments which received some awards include Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Roads and Transport, Local Government and Housing and Health and Social Development.
