PSL team beefs up Arrive Alive

Platinum stars FC joined forces with the Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, The South African Police Service and both local and district municipality in intensifying the Arrive Alive campaign in Rustenburg today. The North West Based PSL team deployed its players who were also ambassadors of road safety, to encourage motorist to adhere to road rules, and further make the roads of the province safer.

The Johannesburg, Pretoria road from Rustenburg was very busy this afternoon, with Traffic officers and SAPS mending roadblock. According to Obed Legobate, the Stakeholder Relations manager of Royal Bafokeng Sports said that the team will inspire drivers and further influence them to adhere to road rules and safety. The players advised motorists among others to buckle up, drive safe at all the time on the roads, before issuing road safety pamphlets and flyers at the road blocks. The team which is currently on the tenth position, on the PSL league, also pledged to support road safety.

Since the campaign was launched by the MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison Desbo Mohono, the enforcement agencies have been working together on the main roads of the province. The department has further developed proactive plans that would assist the campaign to prevent road accidents from happening. Plans like pre-inspections, getting ambassadors of road safety to advocate for Arrive Alive, introducing a 24 hour shift for traffic officers and joining forces with other law enforcement agencies will assist in preventing road fatalities.

MEC Mohono welcomed the partnership and the pledge by Platinum Stars and further urged other prominent people from within the province to join the bandwagon. According to Mohono no driver will be allowed to transgress on the road rules and be let loss. She said that this campaign must make the provincial roads free and safe to travel on.

Meanwhile the department continues to test more buses and taxi to check their road worthiness, to further prevent unnecessary accidents that could have been prevented. The team was further joined by the Rusternburg Mayor Mpho Khunou, and other local councillors who also pledged their support for the campaign.
