Provincial Traffic Services make drug bust – 45kg of marijuana 'dagga' confiscated, two arrests made- MEC Dan Plato

Following the arrest yesterday of two individuals for the possession of an estimated 45kg of marijuana, I would like to congratulate the Provincial Traffic Services for a job well done!

The drug bust, which took place on the R27 yesterday means that drugs with an estimated street value of R30 000 will not be making its way into our communities.

The incident occurred when a white VW Polo overtook the Western Cape Provincial Traffic Chief, on a blind rise and at a high speed on the R27 towards Vredenburg. The driver was then pursued, and after a lengthy chase, with the driver exceeding speeds of 200km, the vehicle was pulled over, and upon inspection eight bags of marijuana (dagga) were discovered.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested. The driver, who did not have a valid driver’s license was also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested accordingly.

With continued vigilance like this the Western Cape will be a safer place for all!
