The provincial competitions for the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) competitions are currently underway in 8 provinces. Although the Eastern Cape completed their competition earlier this week, the rest of the provinces are expected to conclude their festivals and announce winners by the end of June 2013.
“We urge parents and the community in general to support these events as they are very important in many ways for the learners and teachers,” said Ms Gugu Ndebele, the Deputy Director-General for Social Mobilisation and Support at the Department of Basic Education.
The Eisteddfod is one of the Department of Basic Education’s flagship events. The competition, the largest of its kind in South Africa, brings together the cream of the crop of school choirs from around the country for an intense festival of musical delight.
Thousands of learners from across the country are brought together to compete for the recognition as the best school choir in South Africa. The Eisteddfod accommodates learners from the entire schooling system in the preliminary rounds, up to and including the provincial competitions.
